Growing up, Phoenix Hart used to stay up past her bedtime, hiding under the coffee table of her parents’ living room so she could listen to her dad and his Bluegrass band practice into the wee hours of the morning. She’s not hiding anymore. Heralded as one of the truly promising new singers, Phoenix is poised to burst onto the scene with a new album coming later this year. To hear her voice is to hear echoes of both those she grew up idolizing, as well as the contemporary voices defining music today. Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann, KT Tunstall and Rachel Yamagata just to name a few. Three years ago, not many people had heard of Phoenix Hart. But a lot can happen in three years. In 2004, Phoenix picked up a guitar for the first time so she could learn to play a song for her father’s birthday. She wanted so badly to find a worthy gift for the man who’d played banjo and guitar for her as a little girl while she sang “I’ll Fly Away” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.” It turns out, the gift was hers. Within three months, Phoenix learned to play the guitar and suddenly, writing became the escape from reality she had been looking for, and her captivating voice became just the thing to get people to listen. Each song on her new album recounts a moment in her life, the lyrics taking you on her quest to “Save Love.” It’s a journey you won’t soon forget, and one you’ll be happy to make time and time again. Phoenix is rising. Come join her.
