Cleveland-born, California-bred beauty, Akia, has learned a lot over the past few years. Now a little older and a lot more mature, Akia is ready to reemerge and reintroduce herself, and her sultry vocal styling of R&B, to the masses. Formerly signed to Universal Records, the turning point from ambitious singer to recording artist occurred in 2001 when Akia signed with Universal Music Group, under the A&R guidance of industry executive Tse Michele Williams, manager of platinum-selling group 3LW. Akia’s first single, which paid homage to California in an infectious anthem of the same name, was released in October 2002. Subsequently, released on August 19, 2003, her demo turned into an EP titled, Atruprncss (pronounced A-True-Princess). California was featured on the movie soundtrack for Malibu’s Most Wanted and created crossover buzz in western markets such as San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Fresno and Las Vegas, and a street buzz about the Golden State’s best kept secret, “Based on her first single, Akia has the career potential to eventually become the Queen of the West Coast,” said C-Quel, Sixshot.com. In 2007, now emerges a more adult Akia, recording independently and back with a new vibe. “Universal had complete control of my previous album, from the way I looked, to the music I sang and the producers I worked with. I am now able to express myself freely.” When asked why she wants to try the entertainment industry again Akia grins coyly, “No matter how far I drift from music, something or someone smacks me across the face and says, ‘Despite what happened to you in the past, you can do this and you have everything that it takes’.” Malachai Johns, Marketing & Promotions Coordinator for Las Vegas HOT 97.5 agrees, “Beautiful . . . and the voice . . . the voice . . .
