Politics of Confession was formed by Stephanie Hart in 2008. Her intention was to tackle things from a very organic place-find musicians of all instruments and skill levels and begin to create, and see what happened when it was put together with the sounds she was already coming up with herself. Her main goal is truth and realism through music. No matter how she gets to it-through the words, the sounds, how ever it needs to come out is how she lets it. Her major influence right now is the life she is living and the world around her, just as so many other artists use as reflections in their music, and also musical artists like John Frusciante, Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley,The Beatles, Springsteen, Ritchie Havens, Tom Petty, and others. But beyond all those things, she wants people to just hear what she is putting out there. That will tell them all they need to know. One of her current writing and performing partners in Politics of Confession is Wilmington guitarist Steve Rossiter. But POC has a steady lineup of several talented musicians that make up their live and studio sound. The Politics of Confession sound can be described as sparse, emotional, relevant, instrument and vocals-driven indie rock. This is not typical coffee house "acoustic" stuff,(one of the differences is that Steve and other guitarists will usually be seen playing an electric guitar, not acoustic)-this is a bit more to chew on. Despite the more introspective leanings of the music,POC members know how to indulge their joker sides, and frequently take the piss out of themselves and what they do. But like the title of the band hints, there is much emphasis on the more confessional side of music, and it is something they do take seriously-the chance to reach people on a deeper level. The band are content to write and perform, and currently book shows in NC with their eyes on further east coast bookings to start. To them, the music is the message, and they are doing exactly what they need to be doing with it- sharing it with the people.
