RayJean Grey is Genreless Records' first artist. The 26-year-old from Chicago has been singing since he was 6 years old and writing his own lyrics since he was 13. .. Ray said he learned to sing by mimicking people on the radio and by listening to his mother until he created his own style that he called “Hard&B” when he was about 19. “Hard&B, in its truest form, is a derivative from R&B saturated in the blues aspect of the genre, yet straying away from all traditional confines of the genre," he said. Ray got his real start singing in the Monument of Hope youth church choir in Carbondale, Ill. At Carbondale Community High School, Ray immersed himself in the hip hop culture through talent shows, neighborhood compilation albums and street corner freestyle sessions. Growing up around gangs, drugs and violence, Ray said he used his “Hard&B” lifestyle as an escape from his environment. Though he had a mental escape, he said he needed to physically remove himself to get away from it all. Under advice from friends and family, Ray moved to Orlando in 2001. At the time, Orlando was a hotspot for young, budding talent. When he arrived, Ray joined a short-lived singing group called N-IT4LUV. Ray said, with N-IT4LUV, the love was there but it wasn’t enough to hold the group together. After that, he wandered from group to group and genre to genre, searching for his musical path. In 2009, Ray was introduced to producer A. Boogie through a mutual friend. The chemistry immediately sparked between the two of them, cranking out song after song for months on end. The songs got picked up for release by A. Boogie’s label, Genreless Records. RayJean Grey's record debut "A Mile in My Shoes" is due for release in fall 2009. Genreless Records is a recording company that has no boundaries in its sound. Genres have never done anything but hold an artist back from musical growth. In Genreless music, there is no ceiling, no floor and no rules -- just good music. Having soul defines what is good in music, and all music on Genreless Records definitely has soul.
