I got my first drum set my freshman year in high school. I got my first guitar when I was 22, but I learned how to play guitar on my mom's old 12-string Stella, which only had a few strings on it after years of collecting dust. I credit my 3 older brothers for constantly bringing home new albums and watching them play air drums and air guitar. I got into my first real gigging band at age 18, doing part covers (college alternative music) and part originals. 5 years later I got into a hard-core heavy metal band doing part covers and some originals. Then 4 years later, in 1998, I got into a pop and country band where we tried to make our repertoire straddle middle-of-the-road country and pop songs; stuff like Steve Earl, John Mellencamp, along with poppier stuff, like Dead Eye Dick and the Bo-Deens. In 2001 I enlisted into the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper for the next 8 years. Along the way, I steadily built up my own collection of songs and plenty of lyrics and poems. I am now in my first gigging band since 1998. We are a cover band playing songs that typically get folks on the dance floor, minus all the really worn out stuff, like Free Bird, Brown Eyed Girl and Old Time Rock N Roll.
