I think this goes back to when I was 5 years or round about then, when I would record myself pretending to be the role of a DJ, introducing my favourite tracks which I recorded onto cassette for the car to play back over and over and over again! I love music and as I grew up, I began getting more interested in playing an instrument. I would attempt, yes attempt to play my mums volin which I found one day after exploring the house some more. As I couldn’t play it due to being nearly an antique and missing one string, I got a guitar for my birthday, I think it was my 8th. I would hide away in my bedroom and strum away at the strings and try to come up with something, not with much success.
I began getting lessons which were done at my local school I attended and at the end of each term we would hold a session for all the school to come to at which we would perform the songs we had learned so far. This is where I began performing.
After moving up to Scotland, I decided to stop playing guitar. I think this was because after a long break I didn’t have the passion that I used to have, to continue and keep rehearsing over and over. I began to try singing. As I did attempt this when I was smaller, I continued and would sing at home, all the musical songs to the original recordings.
Christmas 2003 saw me getting a karaoke machine which I absolutely loved. I would rehearse songs and then get the family to sit down and perform them to them, family only!
It wasn’t until a karaoke session after the annual stars in their eyes concert that the village held every carnival week, that I began to perform to a larger audience. I got asked if I would sing Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, and so I did. Everyone was quite shocked as at the time I was a quite boy and they didn’t expect the voice I had to come out like it did. This lead me onto doing the summer show the year after where I performed another Meat Loaf classic; Paradise By The Dashboard Light, accompanied by a fellow fan.
Also it lead to me performing with the band my mum’s in, for her 40th which was a big success raising money on the night for local charities.
A friend who had a band at his place recording their first album asked me if I would support them for their concert they were giving at a local venue in May 2004. I didn’t know but later, Mohair were to be signed by a record label, and go international! This was a success for me aswell, besides the band as my “street cred” at school went up.
As most of the audience at the show in May were from school, they were so amazed by my talent that instead of bullying me (which I was, for a couple of year – buts that’s a long story!) they suddenly stopped and thought I was okay…
A year or two went on and Christmas 2006 saw me getting a Multi-track recorder which I got to record tracks as I wanted to go into recording music. I got into contact via the net of songwriters and after a few months passing and recording a song called “Three Wishes” for my 16th Birthday; I had got together a set for my first album, which includes songs written by me, and is about issues in everyday life.
Summer 2007 saw the release of the first single “Three Wishes” which included a dance/pop song called “UMania!” which is available from the site. It showcases a thought of what’s to come on the new album.
Currently on the agenda is the upcoming new solo album which has taken along time to produce but will be worth the wait before working with the new band for live shows and new material which will hopefully mean a new band record!
