Sarah K is a 22 year old aspiring R&B singer from North Vancouver, Canada who first started writing songs at age 13. She knew then that music was the path she wanted to take in life. Her passion quickly grew from writing songs to performing live.
Sarah K’s inspirations as a songwriter came from artists such as Mariah Carey, “I love the way Mariah injects her own life experiences into her music, and I want to reveal that same honesty in my music.”, Alicia Keyes soulful voice and Lauren Hill’s urban sound and ties to hip hop. All were important influences that helped Sarah K shape her sound. Today, you will find Sarah K listening to Joss Stone, and Ne-Yo on her IPod.
Sarah K first live performances were at Capilano College Theatre where she was a part of an artist’s showcase. Event organizer, Don Kline JR (singer/songwriter/vocal coach) saw a special talent in Sarah at the age of 15. What started as a student/teacher relationship, soon evolved into a song writing partnership, and eventually saw Sarah take the stage. “Performing my own songs in front of an audience was amazing at 15, I haven’t stopped since.”
Sarah K has continued to write music that reflected her journey, and has entered various local and national singing competitions. In 2005, “The Beat 94.5” held auditions where Sarah K made it into the final round. In June of 2006, Sarah auditioned to sing the Canadian National Anthem at Canada Place, in Vancouver. She was one of the eight people chosen to sing on Canada Day.
Sarah has surrounded herself with local performing artists that share her passion. She spends as much time as she can in the studio learning the process of composing and recording music. After a lot of hard work, Sarah K had refined and recorded her own songs, so that in 2007, she first took her sound into the clubs. Since that launching point, Sarah has opened for R&B/Hip Hop/Reggae artist Lil' Precious at Crush Lounge and then for her album release Party at Mint Nightclub in Vancouver. At the 2009 “Best of the Best Showcase” Sarah K was a featured artist during Juno Week performances in Vancouver. Most recently, Sarah K joined with Devon Martin (a.k.a. Metro) for a special featured performance at the renowned Fairview Pub, also in Vancouver.
Along with many other local and international artists, Sarah K is a featured on the Lil Precious single “Can’t You See”, the Caribbean soca artist Maffie’s track “Balance”, and with Chicago R&B artist Marcellis Wyatt on his single “I Can Be”.
Sarah K is a socially conscious artist, and together with other local west coast artists, performed at a Surrey high school for the Guilford Leos Kids Fundraiser supporting sick kids in Africa. She feels strongly that it is through music and the arts that we have the potential to bring people together.
Fulfilling her dream and satisfying her passion for music is what continues to motivate Sarah K today. She is always looking for new opportunities to better her craft, and aspires to bolster new relationships with other performing artists. Sarah K one of those singers that have the voice you will not soon forget. Her emotions and truth are front and center in every lyric she shares.
