Biography

sayWHAT? is a rock n’ roll band. That’s right. Not punk, emo, screamo, death metal, hardcore, pop, rap, or nu-metal. Just plain good old fashioned rock n’ roll. A group of talented youth trying to bring back the glory days of the 60’s and 70’s with a modern twist. And that’s the story. We came together when 13-year old lead guitarist Ryan Newman was 10, invited another young local guitarist, Ian Meadows, over to jam on some Hendrix tunes. sayWHAT? is a rock n’ roll band. Landing a spot in between bands at the 2007 River Dog Music Festival, the duo invited Ian’s younger brother Dustin to bang on the drums. The gigs began to line up! We won second place at a big local talent contest with Crossroads, and rounded out that winter playing charity events, parties, and contests. Since then, they have continued this pattern of playing out as much as possible; sayWHAT? has performed at such diverse venues as the Durham Fair, The Webster Theater, New Londons’ Sailfest, music festivals, main stage at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas/New Haven, the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, and two live performances on television! Justus Doane, age 15, joined the group with his bass, and he has been an integral part of the band since February of 2009. The group has recently been noticed for their increasing amount of original work, mainly written by vocalist and guitarist Ian Meadows, 16, collaboration coming from his own family tree in hard hitting brother Dustin, 14. A brief recording stint at analog facility Dirt Floor Studios in Chester during 2008 yielded four original tunes, and the band continues to write and perform a growing number of material at their shows. Demos have been recorded, and the recording of sayWHAT’s first full-length release should be complete by the Spring of 2010. sayWHAT? booking: Dee Newman 860 526 9668 saywhatchester@sbcglobal.net
