Sensa Velasquez An undeniably refreshing new addition to the music scene, Sensa Velasquez has a magnetic sound that is already turning heads within the industry, and he hasn’t even released his first album. Bringing together a mix of pop-, soul-, hip hop- and R&B, Sensa makes it clear that no matter how hard you try to push him into one box, he just won’t fit. While at first listen, his music might draw similarities to artists like Usher, Ne-Yo, and Donnell Jones, he wants all to be clear that there’s a lot more to this singer/songwriter than might be expected. Born and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York, Sensa’s passion for music was realized early on. At age two, he was already singing in the youth choir of his grandmother’s church. By high school, Sensa and three friends started the R&B group, Sincerely Yours. Through several shows and performances, the group gained notoriety and quickly developed a faithful fan base. When the group dismantled four years later, Sensa questioned his future in music. But that didn’t last long. Fast forward to 2008: Sensa bounced back, ready to turn upset into opportunity. Staying true to the sound that made people pay attention, he joined forces with old high school friend-turned-manager, Dawanna Pryor of LabRats Production, and reinvented himself as a solo artist. The work has paid off so far. His current singles are receiving enthusiastic responses from listeners. Tracks like the hip hop-infused, “I Know What Girls Want,” and the intimate ballad, “Wanna Make Love,” have received their fair share of airplay on MySpace and on local station, WVIP 93.5, while also garnering the attention of industry vets, like Jean Nelson, Senior VP A&R of Atlantic Records. His debut solo effort, currently in the works, will paint a portrait of a day in the life of Sensa Velasquez, touching on everything from family to love to the fast life. The project is being produced by LabRats Production’s own AntBoogie, who has produced for other NY-bred acts such as Fredro Starr and Angie Martinez. Although a release date has not yet been set for the album, you’ll still be able to hear Sensa Velasquez performing throughout the year in several spots across the country. Sensa is the new fresh face of R&B. His music is hot and brand new. I look forward to seeing and hearing his sound in today's music. -Jean Nelson Senior VP A&R / Atlantic Records
