Singer/songwriter Shawn Deena comes from the land that gave birth to limbo and steel drums to share his musical creations. Shawn was born in the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago and immigrated to the New York at a young age. He spent much of his youth in New York discovering a bounty of music from the NYC rock scene to hip hop to underground and alternative radio. After moving to Florida during his senior year in high school he began his music career in earnest. It was there that he started making a name for himself by performing with a number of different groups, most notably, The Moist Biscuits (www.moistbiscuits.com) a band which he is still an active member of. In 2001, he moved to Durham, NC with his family and started his solo career as a singer/songwriter about two years later. He has been writing and recording a slew of acoustic since thing making his mark on the music scene in the area through live performances both large and small. Listeners will recognize influences from artists such as Dave Matthews, Richie Havens, Ben Harper, John Mayer, Eddie Vedder, and Johnny Cash throughout his songs. “I write with soul, passion and sincerity,” he says. “When I'm composing music I try to approach it very organically. My words reflect my own feelings and philosophies that people can connect with and relate to in a variety of ways.” Shawn Deena is recently finished his soon to be released album, Pure and Simple.
