Skyla J & the Vibes are a four-piece Soul/R+B/Jazz group based out of Victoria BC, Canada. Skyla J & the Vibes are a four-piece Soul/R+B/Jazz group based out of Victoria BC, Canada. Although Skyla J & the Vibes were formed in July 2009, the four of us have played together for many years in a previous incarnation. This project reunites the membership of the pre-electronic version of our group Greenlaw* which is now signed to Formation Records. Even in the short time Greenlaw was together before going electronic we recorded the album ‘Time and Energy’, which has generated a lot of interest and was even hailed by CBC Radio 1 as one of the “top albums of 2005”. Since the creation of Skyla J & the Vibes we have been a very busy band- gigging at least twice a week in Victoria. We have been invited to play the Victoria Jazzfest in 2010 and to open for Naturally Seven. We feel that one of the greatest harbingers of success we have received to date is the support of Juno-Award-winning producer Joby Baker and Factor Canada. We have won a Factor grant to recorded a couple tracks at Baker Studios and have plans to do so within the next month.
