Powerful melodies from the rich Irish tradition, explosive rhythms from the new age cultural mixing pot that is Dublin today and energy that balances on the verge of eruption, welcome to the world of Sliotar! These 21st century messengers of independent folk rock know how to energetically summarize the world they know in a nutshell. A new album, a self produced gem and a hunger for the road, nobody can stop this band! The secret of this success? Bring three musicians together with completely different musical backgrounds, a huge drive for success, let them blend the sounds they have been collecting and experimenting with for decades and Sliotar will explode out of your speakers. The roots of uilleann piper, whistle player and vocalist Ray MacCormac lies in the streets of Dublin. He was introduced to Irish traditional music as a young child and he is the anchor that keeps Sliotars roots in Ireland. The strong rock, punk and other influences are no coincidence. Finnish guitarist and vocalist J.P. Kallio and Sligo born drummer Des Gorevan both come from very varied musical backgrounds. They both have learned over the years to jump from one style to another making it sound effortless. The songs of the band are full of themes based on everyday life, love and the demon drink. But do not expect a melancholic night with Sliotar because they will bring you a show of Irish trad punk, crushing rock and pounding dance beat. In the summer of 2008 the band released their fourth album, Cirque de Sliotar. This album captured the live sound that has been organically growing for the past ten years and evident at their live shows. Cirque de Sliotar was recorded in the bands own studio in Dublin. “The freedom of our own studio and the relaxed cozy atmosphere brought out the best of Sliotar. This is the best album we have ever done!” J.P. The band has travelled the length of Europe several times since they started touring in 2001. They have played on countless stages and festivals throughout the continent. Also their long running residency in The Porterhouse in Dublin is legendary.. The sound of Sliotar is difficult to describe and that is exactly the power of this promising, folk-rock, musical sensation.
