Smokekiller was in Toronto for Canadian Music Week for the songwriting competition finals. With a new solo acoustic record coming in March 2010, John Antoniuk is taking the "smokekiller" project back to its roots. Also in 2010, Chiba, John's new hard rock project with Barrett Ross formerly of the Blood Lines, is in the studio recording "Chiba HD" for a pre-summer release. Smokekiller "13" was mixed by Odds guitarist Steven Drake (mixed the tragically hip, 54-40). In the last 2 years Smokekiller has showcased at NXNE 09, SXSW 09, CMW 09, Cultural Olympiad 09, OCFF 08, WCMA's, Regina Folk Festival, NXNE 08, SXSW 08, Lt.Gov. Leadership Forum 08. With "13" and "S/T" charting at college radio across Canada, it has been a busy couple of years for smokekiller. The new album title comes from having 13 tracks on the record, but is also smokekiller's birthday (born on a friday the 13th of april some years ago.) As well, smokekiller has been writing songs for 13 years, so the title just seemed to make sense.
