Sterling was born and raised in NYC and had unlimited exposure to R&B, Reggae and Latin music which developed into a love for music at a very young age. During his teenage years, Sterling learned to play saxophone, clarinet, and piano and later realized that he also had an ear-friendly voice and a talent for writing original music. Shortly thereafter, Sterling began playing keyboards and singing lead and background vocals with several local NYC bands. After spending some time in the local band scene, Sterling decided to take time off to concentrate on his writing. Sterling’s writing and warmly evocative vocal style is richly rooted in Soul and Classic R&B and has been greatly influenced by such song masters as Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Stephanie Mills and Barry White, as well as today’s pivotal breed of R&B performers, particularly Brian McKnight, Anthony Hamilton, John Legend and Musiq Soulchild. While Sterling appreciates these varied and flavorful artists, he is carefully crafting his own unique “strictly Sterling” brand of sound. Embarking on a solo music career, and with an arsenal of original songs, Sterling has produced and self-released his debut EP entitled “Solo Sterling”, which is available at CDbaby.com and iTunes. Sterling has performed at the NY International Music and Film Festival, the Soul Café, modeled and performed at the Hudson Valley Resort, and in November, 2007 showcased “Solo Sterling” at the Triad New York Theatre. Sterling has been a featured artist in the November, 2007 issue of Lyrics Inc. Magazine and has done a radio interview on Diamond Princess Jamz. Sterling returned to the Triad Theatre again in 2008 and also performed at East Orange’s “Unity Day”. Sterling is presently writing and preparing for continued recordings and stage performances and in May, 2009 modeled at Cornell Simpkins’ Fashion With A Cause.
