Memin el Pinguin aka El Presidente is a 6'7, Black Spanish MC who was born and raised in Panama as a military baby. He arrived in the US when he was 16, and became involved with the American Hip Hop scene. He graduated from High School as a top basketball player, perfecting his skills to such a level that, he was drafted by the Magic Johnson All Star Team, and began playing professional basketball. El Presidente retired from basketball to concentrate on his music career full-time. His experience as a professional basketball player and his extensive travels throughout the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America served to enhance and upgrade his public image to that of an international artist/super star. Since 1997, El Presidente has been on tour, performing in Latin America, concentrating on Mexico. Because of his commandeering stage presence and charisma, he has been able to attract the attention of world-known upscale companies, such as Oakley, Pepsi and Converse, to sponsor his shows/events. Promotional activities have included 1-day basketball clinics to organizing/hosting in-house celebrity basketball tournaments. While in Los Angeles, El Presidente has embarked on a promotional tour that has steadily increased his notoriety, as well as his fan base. Stellar performances have taken place at: the Stock Exchange (LA), the Key Club (Hollywood), Ibizas (Whittier), the Century Club (Century City), Club Sugar (Long Beach, hosted by K-Day), LA Convention Center (LA), House of Blues (Hollywood), and Dragon Fly (LA). Other credits to his name include hosting an internet radio show – “Hip Hop Express” – an international show, demonstrating the different flavors of Latin American Spanish Hip Hop Music, combined with American Hip Hop that El Presidente experienced on his worldwide travels. At the same time it was an opportunity for him to demonstrate his own musical talents live on air, MC’ing as Memin el Pinguin. Another credit was hosting and performing at the ShoShot Venice Beach Basketball Tournament. In 2006, El Presidente was honored as the top Latino Hip-Hop artist at the 3rd Annual ‘The World of Rap’ Awards in Las Vegas. He also had the honor of performing at the 1st Annual Los Angeles Calle8 event, as part of his tour to promote his single, "El CuCu, Remix", with the original voice of the Sonora Dinamita, Vilma Diaz. He also embarked on a High School Tour, sponsored by WSS. During 2007 El Presidente continued performing around LA including SIR Studios (Hollywood), Florentine Gardens (Hollywood), Latin American Museum – Grand Opening (Long Beach), Cinco de Mayo (Downtown LA), Hollywood Bar & Grill, and he gave a special performance for the Star AIDS foundation. He also performed at the Blue Moon Nights – launching the Presidential Tour, Festival Calle8 in downtown LA (on both days), Festival Navideño, as well as appearances at events such as the Official BET Awards after party and Benny Boome’s BET party, NBA All Stars weekend (Las Vegas), MAGIC Convention (Las Vegas), David Ruffin Jr’s album party, Wyclef’s MySpace Secret Show, and Joseph Jackson’s Birthday Party (Las Vegas).
