While the artistic entity formally known as The Aficionados is relatively new to the hip hop scene, the creative force behind it, Dutch Sholtz, isn't. As part of a production duo known as Labido, it is a little known fact that Dutch was one of, if not the first Canadian hip hop artists to be signed to a major US label (Def Jam) in the mid nineties. At the time, Dutch was still in his teens, and though his prodigious talent resulted in creative collaborations with the likes of Babyface, the success was a case of too much, too soon.
Returning to his home in London, Dutch wore his industry experience as a badge of honor, and young MC’s looking to make their way, found their way to him. In helping them cultivate their talents, Dutch’s creative fire was stoked. The music you hear here is a product of this creative fire. Armed with a collective of musical talents around him who call themselves the Aficonados, Dutch Sholtz is older, stronger, wiser, and ready for his shot at redemption.
