Biography

I formed my band Theatre of the Obscene in 2009 with four of the chilliest dudes I know. I formed my band Theatre of the Obscene in 2009 with four of the chilliest dudes I know. The road to finally collaborating on my own terms was a long one filled with agony, life changing decisions, and ultimately believing that I knew what was right for myself. It all started when my brother and I formed a band, I was 14 and he was 11. We played the local scene hard and often and our following soon began to grow. It grew until we were playing for suits that represented major record labels. Life changed in that instant for me, my band Black Tide had done it! We had accomplished what every kid dreams about, while still being teenagers ourselves. It seemed unreal and yet something felt wrong. The metal that I had played so passionately at 14 felt unnatural, and I knew I had to find my own voice. While my brother went on to tour, live “the life”, and please tons and fans and girls alike, I walked away to the horror of my family and friends. They felt that I had abandoned them, especially since my parents who emigrated from Nicaragua to give their children a better life were struggling financially. Even though people around me did not understand my decision at first, I set to the task of proving them wrong. People have often asked me, how could you have just given up? They ask me, I thought music was your dream? How could you let your family down? It might be hard to understand from the outside looking in, but I simply refuse to be anything less than authentic. Black Tide’s music was great for my brother, he wrote the songs and it became more an expression of him than of myself. He understood more than anyone why I had to be real. Be me. To get back into my parent’s good graces I started selling merchandise for Black Tide on their many tours. It was inspiring to see my brother as well as other bands living out their dreams, on their own terms. So, when I got back to Miami I rounded up my good friends/music partners. We formed Theatre of the Obscene, which is truly an expression of myself in every aspect. I am fascinated by psychology and philosophy. In my lyrics I interweave and explore the depths of the human psyche that range from the evil to the macabre. Through music I hope to transcend the limits of this human order that we are so confined by. To me there is so much more to music that just melody and rhythm. Music is another way to understand and make sense of this world.
