Dean who was involved in different rock projects through the years, first met Sant in 1994 and invited him to join his band at the time (Without Identity). They starting appearing at different venues, covering other bands and performing their own songs as well, mostly composed by either Dean or Sant. A couple of years later Sant had to relocate to Cambridge and departed from the band, which existed for a few more years, playing in bars and rock venues. The Breaking Waves were formed in early 2010 when the two old friends decided it was time to publish some of their earliest work, along with newer material for the world to listen.
