Blake, Suzanne, Dale, and Alex all met at the 2009 summer band camp for Ball State's marching band. After a year of thinking they could distract themselves from their love of music with schoolwork, they came to their senses and formed The Goodnight Fields. Alex left the band in Fall 2010 to pursue other musical interests. The band put up posters advertising their need for a new bass player, and multi-instrumentalist Pat Hannon answered the call. They list their major influences as 90's pop/alternative bands like Better than Ezra, Tonic, Matchbox 20, and the Goo Goo Dolls as well as folk/newgrass bands like Nickel Creek, Good Old War, Mumford and Songs, and Guster. Well, I guess Guster fits into both of those categories. Either way... The Goodnight Fields are currently working out how to record their first album tentatively entitled "Coincidence and Dreams," the band hopes it will be released sometime before Christmas of 2010. They have currently released a free EP of their work so far entitled "Sounds from Gilbert Street" that can be downloaded from their reverbnation account.
