In today’s hip hop industry, many people argue that the descending trend in music is in desperate need of a change. In northern Ohio, a rap duo known as, ‘The Heaviweightz’ has begun to change the game while challenging rival artists and providing talent the music industry has been thirsting for. The Heaviweightz are not considered as modern day rap, more so in fact they are the future of hip hop. This dynamic duo, whose motto enforces the timeless phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, are more than just usual rookies. From their satirical group name to their true artistic expression, The Heaviweightz are a breath of fresh air to the hip hop generation of materialism and two step jingles. The Heaviweightz, consisting of Ohio’s own successful independent artist Exile (Dustin Ientile) and Rico Relentless (Ricardo Garza), combine adrenaline filled combative lyrics with high energy performances that outshine many of the talentless puppet entertainers in the current hip hop music industry. They are known for their ill ability of combining lyrically fast pace mid-west techniques with the south’s admired catch lyrics all the while incorporating melodic and exclusive tones. The Heaviweightz reach many of their fan base through lyrics that creatively range from past experiences, relationships, politics, humanity and the daily struggles that derive from living in a lower class society. With such a wide range of lyrical content, the Heaviweightz create a musical outlet while maintaining the respect of others who deal with the same struggles or have strong opinions on the same political standpoints. This dynamic’s duos impressive track record includes several performances opening for major acts from Bone Thugs N Harmony, D12, Royce Da 5’9 and Tech N9ne, as well as the ability to captivate fans on Cleveland’s hip hop station 107.9 airwaves. They have created introduction pieces for Cleveland’s own radio DJ’s such as DJ Jay Fresh. As their fan base continues to grow, they have acquired local media buzz throughout northern Ohio. To put it simply, to many hip hop fans in Ohio, the Heaviweightz remain Ohio’s best kept secret.
