In 2006 three young musicians in Indianapolis sought an artistic outlet for their music. While having no success finding bands to join that were satisfying to each of their musical appetites, they eventually found themselves together assembling The Holiday. Locally, there were very few bands of like kind they could share the stage with. Indianapolis was not known for outstanding indie or pop rock acts. The Holiday soon found they were one of the few bands that have sparked what is now a growing scene in Indianapolis. The Holiday is led by songwriter/vocalist Derrick Royer. Josh Kincheloe, guitars/bgv and Royer have been the heart of The Holiday from day one. The anticipated release for 2009 is a collection of musical experiences and new ideas shared between Royer and Kincheloe. The duo is completed by brothers Ryan and Ross Burwell on Drums and bass. His style and hard-work ethic fell right in with The Holiday from the beginning. Quickly, songwriting came more fluently and musicianship improved dramatically. The band began building popularity in just about every area of town and was playing nearly 100 shows a year by the end of 2007. Their EP “Innocence”, produced by Travis Palmer (Ironsides, Ranger) of blu room studios, was released in the spring of 2008 with great success. They were featured on Indy.com magazine, WZPL, and WRZX. The award winning video for “Things I Should Have Said in Person” was featured on IMC (Indy’s Music channel). There is no looking back for The Holiday. There release of the “Innocence: Deluxe Edition” last fall came with a great response and proved them to be a higher caliber of a band, showcasing premium production, songwriting and an outstanding live performance. Their rendition of “The Little Drummer Boy” was featured on WZPL in Indianapolis for the month of December 2008. This is only just a glimpse of what this year has in store for the band. Keep a close watch and be ready for The Holiday to explode in 2009.
