Biography

The New Collisions is a band making an epic statement. "The groups we loved growing up had more than a good look and a good sound," says Sarah Guild, lead singer of The New Collisions. The New Collisions is a band making an epic statement. "The groups we loved growing up had more than a good look and a good sound," says Sarah Guild, lead singer of The New Collisions. "They had a vision, and that vision could change your life. The goal of The New Collisions is to speak to the deepest concerns of people our age, to bring people together." Sarah and songwriter/guitarist, Scott, literally live their music. Though just into their twenties, they have spent the past five years on the road. Their travels have taken them on a wild ride through America and Europe, living in six states and Britain along the way. "Everywhere we go," says Sarah, "we meet people--especially people our age--who have no place in society, who have no real roots, whose lives are full of confusion and pain. This led us to form The New Collisions--a band that expresses our struggle for identity and community." Sojourning in Boston to develop the band with veteran producer Jordan Tishler, The New Collisions translate this struggle into powerful rock that combines the urgent vocals of Pat Benatar and P.J. Harvey with the huge, driving sound of modern bands like Arcade Fire and The Killers. Singing from the perspective of the desperate and the trapped, Sarah's performances are direct and intense, free of the irony that pervades indie-rock today. "We're doing this because it's what matters most to us," says Sarah. "We don't really have a choice."
