Biography

‘Music is the breeze that catches the ear, and shivers the spine’. Band biographies usually raise more questions than they answer. Clichéd spiels that hype up a band's image tend to come off superficial at best. We have decided to leave the hype to the people who know best - people who have seen and heard us and have something to say. Basically, The Paper and the Plane is a four-piece band out of Brisbane, Australia, who, collectively, has more musical influences than any band should. Since starting in 2006, they have brought an explosive live show to the local scene and have been consistently turning heads and drawing support as one of Australia’s best emerging bands. We live to play live and love meeting new people who dig what we do. . The Paper & The Plane hate loading gear as we are unfit. ‘The paper & the plane are one of Australia’s wicked bands.’ Behind Crimson Eyes It is difficult to categorise their sound as it stems from a variety of influences. Musically, bands such as The Appleseed Cast, At the Drive-in and Mineral are drawn from, and this is combined with vocal influences ranging from Circa Survive, Benton Falls to Mars Volta. This culmination of delay driven rock and soaring vocal melodies, wrapped in an energetic and passionate live show is a unique musical experience. ‘Astounding vocal range, captivating and memorable.’ Rave Magazine Last March saw the independent release of the three-track ep aptly titled, ‘an introduction.’ Taken from recordings done the year before in a one-day session, the self-produced release is a fusion of clean mournful melodies, masterful song crafting and rhythm of infinite momentum. In one year, one thousand units were independently distributed, which is no small feat for a local band. The release is the first stepping-stone for the band; only briefly illustrating the essence they have more recently become renowned for. While it is a solid indication of the music, the band jumped straight back into writing for the next release, whose title illustrates the duration between releases, and portrays the band’s musical evolution. “It’s not hard to see why these boys are considered one of Brisbane’s favourite home grown acts. When all the band members are singing along to their songs, regardless of whether or not they have a microphone in front of them, it’s a pretty good indication of how much they’re all enjoying themselves”-Faster, Louder ‘One year, two months, sixteen days and counting’ is the newest release by the band. Recorded in Brisbane and produced by the legendary Ed Rose, this five-track ep is a leap beyond the band’s previous effort, both in song writing and production. The band has tried to integrate the energy of the music with a greater sense of dynamics, thereby creating a release that moves far more than before. “The Paper and the Plane blew me away, with their extremely rich sound. A sound that to me resembled a huge mash of bands like Muse, Minus The Bear, Thursday, The Mars Volta and Circa Survive. With so much feeling, so much implied angst and solid emotion, their stage presence and honestly mature and at times haunting sound was thrown forth leaving a huge impression on an unsuspecting crowd. This is a band to definitely keep an eye on, I strongly suggest you check them out if you’re up for an audio induced erection." -Kill Your Stereo
