• Overview
The Phrenia is a hard rock and roll band that originated in Anchorage, Alaska. So as not to beat around the bush; we love to throw a relentless onstage performance that’s backed by the type of music worthy of driving that type of high action. We are known to party way too hard and be a bit much to handle on and off the stage; however, not to be a garage band cliché, we possess the dedication to practice our asses off until every song is spot on, as well as the professionalism to be the first band to show up at a venue and be ready to play (which can sometimes screw you, just to let you know…)
• A Very Brief History
We played many of the bars in Anchorage, having a blast every time, and had the pleasure of performing alongside some of the states finest, such as Sunbury, T.I.A. (a.k.a. This Is Alaska), The Hoons, Snack Farm, Evil Ted and the Thick Pink Antiseptic, Double Fines and The Scurvies.
• The Phrenia’s Current Plans
Because two of the band members moved to the Lower 48, The Phrenia is innovating ways to keep in touch musically over the web. During this “phase,” so to speak, we plan to focus more on songwriting and recording (which is almost a blessing in disguise, because we were having trouble actually writing new material with the ass-ton of practice we were doing for our gigs.) We also plan to ship each other back and forth so we can continue to throw the shows we so yearn to do. We will be holding our group and our music together no matter how daunting this task may seem at times.
• The Phrenia’s Sound
Musically there’s nothing we won’t try to throw out there if it tickles our fancy, from punk rock to a classically played guitar ballad, but to sum up what music we have written so far: Our music has been described back to us as a throwback to the decadence that ravaged through the majority of the seventies, with a modern twist that adds a bit of a heavier edge. Being predominantly a heavy rock band, most of our songs have been derived from a blues base, and end up evolving to include ideas from our many other influences (ranging from Muse to The Posies.) Some have said we were like The Doors on steroids, which was most certainly a welcome compliment.
