'QUAGMIRE' / kwag.mir noun - an awkward, complex or hazardous situation. ORIGIN - late 16th century: from QUAG + MIRE Thesaurus - noun - muddle, mix up, mess, predicament, mare's nest, can of worms, quandary, tangle, imbroglio, trouble, confusion, difficulty, abnormal sticky situation, pickle, stew, dilemma, fix, bind. 'THE QUADMIRE' noun - contemporary rock band comprising of four musicians causing, contributing to, or effected by, the forementioned undesirable situation. The QUADMIRE is a Sydney based 4 piece melodic rock outfit who cover a number of genres. Influences within the band include Matchbox 20, ZZTop, The Police, Men At Work, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, U2, Green Day, Live, Tonic, Powderfinger, among many others. Dave's writing styles are influenced by, but not limited to, Paul Kelly, Colin Hay, Rob Thomas & Live. The entire QUADMIRE project is a melting pot of all these sounds, best described as moderate melodic rock with a strong commercial appeal. Mitch on guitar has been playing the pubs since the 1980's and has a lengthy CV, including such bands as 'LE GRANGE - THE ZZ-TOP show, THE RED HOT MUMBLERS, and more recently 3 piece rock/blues show 'SOUTHPAW'. He brings to the QUADMIRE strong and assertive guitar sounds that flood the songs with light and shade, and aggressive growls and melodic licks that add punch and personality. He provides a guitar-driven 'passion and perspective' that only many years of 'axe wielding' can. Dave and Chris have been doing it for a long time too, since the early 90's in fact. They started playing together in the Sydney based originals band MOTHERS' LITTLE HELPERS, who went for close on 10 years. A drummer in a number of other covers bands since that time, Chris, around 2004, got the job in Mitch's band, SOUTHPAW. Chris's solid, splashy drumming has been a key ingredient in the QUADMIRE's overall sound, and his proven ability to slot easily into any given format, makes him a solid foundation within the QUADMIRE's repertoire. Meanwhile, Dave bided his time, whilst still writing original music, and fronted covers duo "CHASE FOR SKASE", then 6 piece party covers band "GREAT SET OF HITS", at the time owned by bass player Darren Bishop. Darren is one of those understated players that frequently comes up with clever and creative bass lines, that often pave the way for new sounds, and rhythms that often dictate an original song's overall feel and attitude. Darren and Dave banged away at it for a number of years in the covers show, but eventually the originals bug took hold again, as Dave's original songs backlogged into plaguing proportions, and, in the latter part of 2007, he called on the talents of Chris, Darren and Mitch, all known and trusted entities, to record and back catalog his babies, and so THE QUADMIRE was born.
