Biography

My name is Rene; I'm often referred to as The Reen, which I think is really cool because I can have "The" as my first name just like The Fonz. I was born in Laredo, TX, I'll just say a while back. I grew up on some random 60's vinyl, the "La Bamba" soundtrack, "The Best of the Beach Boys, Vol.1," "The Best of the Beatles," and an Elvis Presley casette that I just adored. Singing was always my thing. I loved to harmonize. My goal was to start an awesome boy band (crap did i just say that?), but I never thought of picking up a guitar; I guess I kinda doubted myself. I got an electric guitar for my 14th birthday and figured I'd teach myself to play the damn thing, so that's just what I did, and as soon as I could play it (decently), I decided I didn't want to sing other people's songs--I wanted to play my own. I performed in front of people for the first time with my short lived(one gig) band The Rolly Jogers at my high school talent show when I was a senior. That didn't go so well (my apologies to Kurt Cobain for our rendition of Heart Shaped Box). Things went alot better after graduation, when my friend Balta and I started a band called Left Lane Closed with our friend Jofus, but after about two years Balta went off to college in another country and Jofus just got lost in action, and I was left alone(weep). I decided to go solo, and so the saga begins...me and my guitar, writing songs about my life, which has mostly been filled with stuff about girls and being heartbroken and getting screwed over. Does that make me a heartbroken emo kid? Well whatever I am, I'm in this for life, and I live by these words: "Without a song, the road would never bend. Without a song, a man ain't got a friend. Without a song, the day could never end." I'll keep singing a song. :)
