The Ritz formed in early 2008 out of a desire to play straight-forward rock n’ roll in a city where such a scene was severely lacking. After a year of writing, rehearsing and a quick change of drummer, they were ready to start gigging. Impressing audiences from the get go, The Ritz started to become somewhat of a regular around the Hobart pub scene. Playing to increasingly larger numbers until, less than a year after their first gig, they were opening for Aussie rock super-group Raise the Flag (The Screaming Jets, The Angels, The Choirboys).
Fronted by James Burke on guitar and vocals, Theo Batchelor on bass and Rod Berry on drums, The Ritz draw influence from the L.A. glam scene of the 80's and dirty Aussie rock, but have never tried to fit in to any particular sound. Not ones to believe that recordings or a few paragraphs of writing really do rock n’ roll justice, The Ritz are a live band at heart, and well worth seeing.
