The band is an eclectic quartet spanning four ethnicities, each coming from a varied musical background. Including former members of Dead August, Medusa Diesel, and Pron, these four set out on a musical venture that has led them to the “self-named” genre of Groove-Metal. The journey began in December of 2006 when the brothers Mondelli included Suarez the drummer in their jam sessions. Having written the music for three songs, they invited a good friend – G Funkk, to write lyrics and try some vocals. Through the wonders of myspace, bassist Hammer was added as the final piece. The following three months found a plethora of ideas and riffs bouncing off the walls as the band began to take shape. Unexpectedly, with family and personal commitments, the elder Mondelli left the band leaving only Di’ Italio. So, the quartet was fixed and began working through material to become gig ready. The first show was self-promoted at Salotto’s Nightclub where the reception was warm and exciting. After playing several local shows to get the band’s name into the local music scene, The Shallow headed to Phil Weisenberger Studios in Georgetown, Ky, to record a 3 song demo. Shopping the demo has brought some interest regionally, but the band has yet to strike any type of recording or management deal and continues to self-promote. They are currently in the studio The Shallow have played in venues in Richmond, Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati with an upcoming mini-tour through northern Ohio and West Virginia scheduled for later this year. The highlight for the band in the short time period that they’ve been playing live shows has been as openers for Nonpoint at A1A Concerthall presented by ZROCK 103. The band continues to evolve personally, musically, and most importantly as friends. As such, the sound has become more defined and complex with some mainstream potential. The band has received multiple compliments from every musician and sound engineer they have worked with, as well as music industry personnel. They have amassed a semi-large fan base locally in the short time they have been playing and are gaining momentum throughout the region having been included on the bill for upcoming festivals.
