Out of twelve years of writing and recording, husband and wife duo Colin and Kristen Meyer have completed their first record appropriately entitled Wait. The sound of Wait is marked by Colin Meyer’s soaring vocal harmonies surrounded by a rich tapestry of guitars, wine glasses, dulcimer, cello and other textures. Syncopated drumming propels the album forward, dividing the beat with an odd and unique geometry. In moments where the dense complexity stops, the listener is surrounded by the tranquility of contrasting simplicity. In order to maintain the thoughts and emotions of these songs, Colin & Kristen produced, recorded, and played all the instruments on the record. It is hard to put their organic, intricate sound into a definable genre. The Soldier Story avoids the standard structure of verses and choruses, not abandoning them altogether but finding other ways around them. The result is intriguing music that continues to blossom with every listen.
