The Sure Shot Hunters bring an unmarked sound to blues-rock. Creating a hybrid fusion of distinctive blues feel and rock energy, they are captivating live musicians. In 2004, Zevon Hiltz (Melbourne, Australia) started his journey to form the 3-piece band ‘The Sure Shot Hunters’. Since forming the trio have released an EP ‘Stand and Deliver’ and in 2008 a debut album ‘After Midnight’.
The release of After Mid-night prompted interest for TSSH on a national level and with rave reviews and a series of tours the band was quickly cemented as having a superior sound quality in their recordings and live shows. Since 2006 The Sure Shot Hunters have performed an astounding 600+ gig’s. Let’s take it back to 2004 – Zevon Hiltz is a true musical talent.
He is witnessed in his instrumental abilities as a guitarist, lyricist and vocalist. As Hiltz played around with forming his band, he met drummer Alejandro Adams in 2001 who was a musician from Cairns who had moved to Melbourne. Late 2005 brought a new addition to the band, bass player Nick Delaney. At the time Nick played in a band called 'Moon Jelly.
Hiltz had gauged Delaney’s interest in joining ship and Delaney did just that. Together they formed the tight trio that is now five years strong and has an impressive list of tight original tunes that forges the Sure Shot Hunters signature sound. In 2007, TSSH won a recording grant sponsored by Mescalito Records. They dove straight into a 2-day recording session at the infamous Thirty Mill studio. Thirty Mill has welcomed many great artists including ARIA award winners (Living End, Jeff Lang) to name a few. The ‘After Midnight’ debut album emerged within those recordings.
They worked with producer Ivan Khatchoyan ('Choi' Productions in Fitzroy, Melbourne) to fine tune their sound and along with two featured live tracks recorded at Melbourne’s PBS radio station 106.7 FM, the album was completed. In June 2008, ‘After Midnight’ was officially launched at the well-known venue Northcote Social Club to a near capacity crowd.
