The Times of Trouble

San Francisco, CA

Biography

Hello Fans, Friends, and Family I’m writing to fill you in on the legend of the Times of Trouble. This is a rags to riches story that is definitely in the rags stage, and it’s happening right before my eyes. It all started on the top of a mountain on the day Lucas Rabel and Patrick Martens climbed to the peak of Mt. Charleston, roared like lions, and declared to the world that they would become the world’s most rocking band and that their music would inspire joy and happiness in millions of people’s lives. They packed up everything they owned into a resurrected 15-passenger van and embarked on their journey to San Francisco, CA, the place they decided to let the world know of their existence. Immediately they took to the streets as a duo, they played for hours upon hours, sometimes 12-14 hours in a day. Lucas fondly remembers Patrick actually falling over on his drum, asleep. They played for the thousands of people passing by and were given strength by the young smiling faces and the people who stopped and danced. Patrick and Lucas walk five, seven, sometimes more than ten miles a day with a guitar, djembe, backpack full of water, and stools to sit on. You can find them at parks, local radio station spotlights, ball games, street corners, universities, subway stations, or wherever else they may be able to reach a fan and earn a buck. After growing weary of being homeless and sleeping in a van with shattered windows, the duo decided to rent a 24-hour rehearsal space in an area of the city you have to watch where you walk to avoid bum feces. They crashed on the musty noodle stained carpet after long late night jam sessions. Their place has no windows, no kitchen, and a community bathroom (with no shower) they can wash their dishes in after everyone’s left the building. Patrick and Lucas cook on one portable oven burner and a microwave they found on the side of the road. Their closet and dresser is a large Tupperware container, they hang their towels and clothes to dry on mic stands, and eat off of used and undersized drum heads. After landing their first paying gigs at several San Francisco area Farmer’s Markets they were able to upgrade from the dirty carpet to a cheap futon found on craigslist, which they now share like little brothers. In fact, they are routinely asked on the street if they are brothers, and rather than explain, they now reply simply, “yes, yes we are.” All the while these guys are living everyday to make great music for you, and they are dedicating their entire existence to serving as many people as they can through their art. I’m here to tell you I believe in these guys’ sincerity, heart and passion for what they’re doing, I want to make their dreams come true. And I’m sure many of you do too, don’t you? You will be a part of this legend, won’t you?! Vote and vote often for these guys!!!! Let’s come together right now and start a community of believers. We’re all a part of this epic tale now. And we all will be able to say yes I was there way back when, I was a part of this hero’s tale of the potential of the human heart. Thank you for your time, your love, and your help Peace, Derek Reynard Believer and Troublehead
