Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, Da'Zhan Antonio Leath, better known as Tony Spaz, is a young rapper/producer/engineer/graphic artist slowly but surely making his way onto the music scene. With his great grandmother being involved in a singing group that went around North Carolina performing, and having a great uncle involved in the Compton Boys Choir and a grandfather that played every instrument in the church, Tony Spaz comes from a family of musicians. For him, it all started around the age of 10 when Tony Spaz's uncle, Dino, built a studio in his own home. Visiting his uncle and hearing him sing motivated Tony Spaz to pursue a lifestyle of music also. He started off writing poetry, which he often read to his classmates and teachers. Eventually, he learned to shape those words into a rhythmic pattern. Around the age of 12, Tony Spaz bought his first microphone and recorded his first song "Never Let Me Down". Not even having a microphone stand, he recorded the song by holding the mic while under a bedsheet in his closet under the moniker "KiC"(Kid Is Chillin'). Although the quality of the song wasn't up to par, the meaning behind it was. Eventually he became interested in creating his own beats, to which he would rap to. In his own words, " I was horrible *laughs*, I was using a pirated copy of Fruity Loops 7 and had no idea what tempo or quantize meant." Even still, with a determined work ethic Tony Spaz completed his first mixtape entitled " Story of a Man" by the age of 14. It was then when Tony Spaz moved back to Greensboro, NC from Raleigh, NC to live with his father. He heard from a friend at school about a program entitled "Reason". So with all the money he had been saving up from birthdays and other holidays, Tony Spaz purchased a copy of Propellerhead Reason and an Emu X-Board 25. His mother purchased him a laptop because she wanted him to be able to make his music portable. Evolving more into his musically inclined state of mind, Tony Spaz began making better beats, and vowed to never again use Fruity Loops(although, after further learning of the program he now claims it as his main program of choice). After living with his father for 6 months, Tony Spaz moved to Atlanta, Georgia to live back with his mother. It was then that he dropped the moniker "KiC", to avoid confusion with Collipark artist V.I.C. He continued his music career without a name, until one fateful trip back to Greensboro, NC. While showcasing some of his beats to his aunt, Tony Spaz began to freestyle. As she could tell he was really into it and making little to no mistakes at all, she replied, " Alright Spaz, I see you". From there, he took the Tony from his middle name, Antonio, and the Spaz from the nickname he received from his aunt to produce Tony Spaz. After spending what seemed like thousands of dollars, Tony Spaz officially set up shop with a Dell Latitude D610, two KRK Rokit Powered 5 Monitors, A MXL 990 Condenser Microphone, an Emu X-Board 25, a Casio keyboard, a set of Astro Drums, an Aria Acoustic/Electric guitar, and a Mbox 2 Mini. Then 15, Tony Spaz connected with classmate and fellow rapper, Lil Fresh (1/2 of the group Starstuddz), to remix the hit Tony Spaz produced "Money In the Basement". Only a few months after that, they reconnected again, but now with fellow classmate P-Red, to create the hit "Swag Is Official". That song is what really created Tony Spaz's buzz, as it became a club hit in no time. Now a rising Junior at Marietta High School, Tony Spaz has increased his skill and is currently seeking any management and/or internship opportunity at a recording studio.
