She makes it fun to listen to some of her catchy and meaningful lyrics and bubbling melodies and that goes well with Delaney's playful nature.
Delaney is a hard person to pigeon-hole as far as her style and genre of music. We could say something like a Pop Rock Singer Songwriter with a tinge of country, blues, and folk at times. And there are others who would describe her as something a little bit different.
Hobbies: writing music and poetry, downhill skiing, tennis, walks in the woods,
Other skills: painting; psychological education; co-produced music events in BC (Starlight Cafe concert series); past member of the Board of Directors of Women in Music; and Vice-President and Board Member of the BC Showcase Songwriters Association in Langley.
Musical influences & why:
Delaney's musical influences has more to do with a songwriters character and whether they are being inventive and thinking out of the box. Delaney choose to switched off the radio so that her creativity would also be more unique.
1) Neil Young – like his style because it is unique and groundbreaking.
2) Tracy Chapman – Tracy's songs move Delaney and take her to a deep place and she inspires Delaney to do the same.
3) Heart – they are the best girl band ever. Killer vocals and incredible guitar and very great rock sound.
4) Sara Evans – Delaney has seen Sara up close performing and was quite moved. Delaney loves the songs that Sara has chosen and likes the way Sara portrays herself in the music industry - classy, approachable, strong.
The are two folks that Delaney is in awe of: Sara McLachlan - an incredible groundbreaking artist and Keith Urban - who is also an incredible groundbreaking artist and a world class guitar player.
Sounds like & why: Natalie from Dixie Chicks with a mix of Stevie Nicks,Sarah McLachlan, and Taylor Swift. When Delaney performs with her band they can easily sound like of the 'openness and rock sound' of Fleetwood Mac.
Personal characteristics: With her music Delaney hopes to inspire greatness in everyone. Don't be in the a box; create your own space. Delaney doesn't compete with other songwriter/performers because it doesn't make sense to compete in the creative and artistic world. Delaney encourages find your own space in music as well as life. Live whatever your passions are each day.
