You can’t judge a book by its cover, nor can you keep fire in a box, and in a music industry saturated with uninspired,
synchronized studio vocals and weak, lackluster lyrics, G-Cove and DJ Chop aka Unrated are a breath of fresh air.
Just 15-years old but already headed toward legendary, the dynamic duo is equipped with a sophistication and
talent beyond their years. The Memphis natives have been penning and producing their own music since they first
battled against each other when they were seven year olds. After a memorable rap battle in the playground that
ended in a truce, the two decided to unite their creative powers to become Unrated, an undeniable force poised
to take the music world by storm.
Listening to their explosive tracks, one is hard pressed to place Unrated in a single genre. Recorded at Arommet
Records studios in the legendary river city that gave us BB King, Elvis Presley, Al Greene, and Isaac Hayes, their
music defies categories. Those who insist on trying will have to file them under “genre unknown.” “We are
an out of a box group,” says G-Cove, the group’s lyrical frontman. “We love what we do and we just do it from
our heart. If you love music, you’ll love us because we have something for everyone.” Featuring innovative
instrumentals and an electrifying energy that is contagious, Unrated’s eclectic sound is derived from a background
dominated by a myriad of musical influences.
Unrated can best be described as a celebration of the art of collaboration. Together, the two artists carefully
followed instincts culled by countless hours of serious study and improvisation. G-Cove began his journey
through sound after receiving his first drum machine at seven. DJ Chop discovered his gift after his impromptu
freestyling and poetic lyricism landed him his own afterschool following. United, Arommet’s rising stars, led by
the charismatic and talented recording artist, Temmora, are a music lover’s dream. Their music reflects the various
stylings of funk and soul, rhythm and blues, hip hop and hard rock, all woven together by a refreshing irreverence
that is irresistible.
And their musical and vocal talent is unmatched by their performance skills. Unrated has opened for notable
national acts as diverse as Flo-Rider, Lil Boosie and Webbie, The Player’s Circle, Pliers, and DJ Unk while earning
honorable recommendations and accolades from the Mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas and the Missouri chapter of
the NAACP. The group has performed at the International Cinque de Mayo Festival, the largest Latino gathering
in Arkansas, and they were recently nominated as the “Hottest Up and Coming Artists of the Year” by the Dirty
South Awards in Dallas, Texas. But these early honors on the road to success have not gotten to the young
group’s heads. To be able to travel with his music was one G-Cove’s oldest dreams. “No matter what anyone says,
I want our fans to know, if you put your mind to it, your dreams can come true because my dreams are coming
true.” As endearing as they are relentless, these young musicians are quickly building a regional and national
reputation for entertaining excellence.
Unrated is a heartfelt, energetic, crowd-pleasing young group that boasts enough musicianship and authenticity
to make even the oldest of old school music lovers nod their heads in appreciation. With every track, G-Cove and
DJ Chop pay homage to the music of the past while leaving listeners no doubt that there is much to look forward
to in the future. With strong musical roots like these, you can file Unrated under unstoppable.
