Up Against Down unites the opposites, in search for a new rock sonority, blending influences from different origins to establish a singular identity. It was the desire to create something truely unprecedented that made old time friends Ledd (guitars/vocals) and Allan Gordon (keyboards) join forces in November 2008. In 2010, drummer Mario "Moptop" Mamede and bass player Daniel Martins join and complete the line-up, turning what was merely a project into a band. One of group's main features is the heavy use of keyboards on the foreground, with retro sounds, such as the ones produced by Mellotron, Minimoog and Rhodes piano. The vintage sounding guitar also boosts a wide array of modulation effects, sounding, at times, as a sythesizer itself. On the meanwhile, the bassline packs a powerfull punch to completes the band's harmony, which also relies on musical gadgets, such as several Stylophones and a Kaossilator in their songs. Sounding sometimes modern and other retro, Up Against Down builds its identity on contemporary alternative rock and post-punk, with a hint of 70's progressive rock, mainly distinguished by keyboards and old school electronic elements. Within this concept, the group's first lyrics focus on Time and its various reflexions on human relations.
