Hailing from Central Coast of California, their energetic lyricism and tremendous beats generate an energetic soul stirring vibe that commercial Hip-Hop can’t touch. What started as a DJ and a MC evolved into a six-member group; guitar, bass, keys, drums, & percussion- all representing the instrumental foundation from where Hip-hop sampling derived. Each member brings a background of different musical style and expression. There's Funk, Soul, Blues, Rock & Roll, R&B, & more. The influence of these different genres and how well they interweaved created something so potent that led to the formation of Venomous Voices. Even though the group officially began touring in 2004, brothers Justin (aka Jaws) & Jake Bonilla ignited the spark in the early 2000’s, drawing inspiration from legendary groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, & Freestyle Fellowship, the brothers worked together creating a sound all their own. In the beginning, Jake would create beats that Justin would rap over. At home, the brothers would jam out with father Gilbert on guitar & Cousin Joey Steil on keyboard. An amalgamation of friends, family, & additional homegrown talents of the Central Coast are now the members that make up the Venomous Voices. Venomous Voices are Jaws (Justin Bonilla) on the mic, Jake Bonilla on drums, Gilbert Bonilla on guitar, Joey Steil on keys, Jon Valentin on bass, & Joel De Leon on guitar/keys. Since 2004 they have played at venues and clubs up & down the California coast, with continuing shows at Downtown Brew in San Luis Obispo. They have also played the Ventura Theatre, the Whiskey in Hollywood, & they have opened for Hip-Hop legends such as Rakim, People Under The Stairs, Andre Nickatina & Digable Planets. If Hip-Hop is dead, then Venomous Voices has created a fresh sound with roots sprung from its ashes. Devoid of auto-tune, studio gangsters, & commercial gimmicks, they symbolize the volatility of Hip-Hop & the expression of oneself through music.
