Incidentally, according to Joakim, his upcoming album itself should be seen as a "status update" of his own life and songwriting, and what his world looks like in 2019. The 11 tracks on the album, are selected from more than 50 songs that Joakim has worked on for a long time. According to Joakim, the songs are "the 11 songs that, together made the most sense to put together, and listen to as a whole", and at the same time, the 11 songs that ensured a wide range of tempo and energy without compromising the thread of consistency.
Joakim Lykke is a wild but also brittle and fragile, 41-year-old with lots of musical experience. He sees himself as a performer, frontman and singer - and has more than 300 live gigs behind him - with all the insight and experience it provides. He sings - but also plays the guitar and writes his own songs. The influences are bands like Counting Crows, +LIVE+, Matchbox Twenty, R.E.M and Kashmir, all of whom, to some extend, are present in Joakim's songwriting.
Joakim Lykke LIVES on stage and in contact with an audience! He says, without the slightest hesitation: "rock is energy and experiences" and “rock music must be experienced live!”.
For Joakim, being a front man on stage is "something about putting your foot on the monitor, leaning over the edge of the stage and giving it your all!". It is about "getting in touch with the audience with all that entails!" He says: “after that first experience of being in a state of symbiosis with the audience, I was sold! – I’m never going back on that!”.
Joakim Lykke is 100% self-taught. He taught himself to write songs and play the guitar: "because I had something to say!" Joakim feels like it’s important to get it out, and so he financed the album himself, because he felt like he needed to, and because he felt like he had something relevant to say.
Joakim says: “Today you can record music at home in your living room with an iPad and a cheap guitar, but it has been imperative for me, to do it properly.” The album is recorded in Mindless Studio in Aarhus, a real studio with all the facilities in modern recording equipment, hired professional musicians, and with the experience of producer Flemming Bloch on the sidelines.
“It has been a big and expensive project – I spent countless hours and all my savings, but having financed it all myself, has let me make the album that I felt I had to make, with no restraints and total artistic freedom.”
The album will be available in early 2020, while the 1st single and video will be released 24.11.19.
