Birth name Jarel Brown, the last person I would have ever expected to want to become a rapper, being that he was raised by his grandparents at such a young age and only listened to old school r-n-b and soul music. It’s funny that being born and raised in the birth place of hip hop the boogie down Bronx, rap music really didn’t impress Jarel until his junior high school days were he brought his first rap album “Harlem World” by mase. After listening to the album he went on to buy more and more albums from different artist that was hot at the time making him a big fan of rap. Freshman year in college is where it all started for Jarel after being put on the spotlight by his roommate showing off in front of girls, while his roommate hit him with all kind of rhymes and punch lines from off the top of his head there was nothing he could do at that moment but take the embarrassment. He stayed up the whole night writing a diss to the nas ether beat to get even; it had to be about 4 or 5 minutes long when he finished. He got his revenge back about a week later in the cafeteria in front of just about everybody, he was nervous but he didn’t stop rapping until he was finished with his whole freestyle. Being a freshman and having a baby face he got a crazy feedback from the audience especially the seniors which gave him the name “Young Rel”. After leaving college in 2004 Young Rel pursued rap, consistently writing freestyles to industry beats realizing that his lyrical content started getting better, that’s when he moved on to writing original songs. After being heard rapping outside with a bunch friends in Harlem in late 2005, Young Rel signed to an independent label known as Scotch Bonnet Records/Don-Kame-Lyon Productions in early 2006 where he recorded an unreleased mixtape called The Definition of a Soldier. Nothing much came from the label besides a local radio show and one performance in a years time, which became a problem leaving Young Rel with only one thing to do and that’s leave the label. Since then Young Rel has been doing his own thing building up his buzz tearing down show after show all over New York City. In 2007 he was introduced to a producer named Paperz were he started recording more original tracks getting better every song. It was spring 2008 when Young Rel recorded a track called “Money on My Mind”, that’s when he really started to build a fan base performing that track won him several competitions and earned him a lot of respect. He decided to run with that song as his single, doing so put him in better positions such as performing at more popular venues, getting offered to be in magazines and even go on tour with worlds famous Dj Envy in 2009 due to having new managers with strong work ethic. Young Rel is planning on starting his own record label and maybe even doing movies in the future, and if he keeps moving at the pace his future is looking real bright so look out for him.
