“I am not a rapper. I am music. I am culture. I am creative. I am hip hop.” ~Young Sir …and they call me “Young Sir.” Lyrically known as “Young Sir”, but by birth named Taj, I was born June 1990, in Baltimore, Maryland. However, my family eventually relocated to the Washington, D.C. area. I graduated from high school in 2008 and am presently a college student with a focus in journalism. Since childhood, I have been commended on my ability to write. From an early age it is said I always had a desire to express myself and my voice be heard. Raised in a Muslim environment where respectfulness and good manners were strongly encouraged, I was always certain to address adults as “Sir” or “Ma’am.” When elders asked a question of my answer always began with “Yes/No, Sir” or “Yes/No, Ma’am.” Because this was a rare practice with my click, it earned me the name “Young Sir.” I have always had a love for music and have performed several genres including drummer in my high school marching band. I performed as a hip hop artist in our locally popular high school hip hop group, "Da Beat Club" which introduced me to audiences, tours, promotion, radio and t.v. In 2007, others and I formed a local go-go band known as "Tru Identity"--where I brought hip hop to go-go. Fan base and reputation growing, in 2008, I made the decision to begin my solo quest as a hip hop artist. I am currently working on the completion of my first mixtape but have penned several singles that can be heard on my MySpace music page. Check me out and let me know what you think: (www.myspace.com/youngsir18). I have been greatly inspired, like most others, by President Barack Obama who was quoted as saying, “The potential for [rappers] to deliver a message of extraordinary power that gets people thinking [is there]. The thing about hip hop today is it’s smart, it’s insightful. The way they can communicate a complex message in a very short space is remarkable.” With this said, it is apparent the legacy of hip hop continues, to be taken to the next level by new artist for generations to come. …enter Young Sir.
