Formed in Early 2009, You Tonight has played over 30 shows in North and South Carolina. After switching drummers in mid summer, the final line up consists of Jesse Reaves, Gray Wise, Kyle Butler and Hayes Smith. Formed in Early 2009, You Tonight has played over 30 shows in North and South Carolina. After switching drummers in mid summer, the final line up consists of Jesse Reaves, Gray Wise, Kyle Butler and Hayes Smith. Throughout their teen years, all of the members played in various bands together and in side projects. Something that was definitely not expected was the relationships that rapidly built within in the band allowing them to jump right in the studio to record their debut EP “After Hours.” Although Reaves is the main songwriter each member brings their own personality into the songs. The rhythm section of Butler and Smith are powerful duo, working off each other to keep a consistent funky groove. Wise also writes and sings in the band, however none of his songs are present on this CD. Reaves is the lead guitarist, while Wise serves as the rhythm, providing twangy riffs to Jesse’s powerful solos. This CD is proof that this band has strong foundation letting many musical styles influence their sound. Taking pride in their live shows, You Tonight has over 10 originals that they mix in with covers. It is not uncommon for a mandolin and dobro to make their way into the set, something that is not common for most alternative bands today. Apart from uncommon instruments, You Tonight relies upon heavy stage communication that allows them to do extended jams, which makes their live shows energetic and unable to be predicted.
