POETIC JUSTICE is a Hip-Hop group that expresses the voice of the people. Our rhymes depict the life of the community as seen through our and other inner city kids eyes. The music we write and perform connects with the everyday lives of ordinary people that live or have experienced the Ghetto Life. The group consists of two members, which are brothers Zantonio and Kelvin Stewart. Born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. We lived in places like Perry Homes, Englewood Manor projects and the Simpson St. Vine City area also known as the Westside. We grew up listening to different kinds of music like Prince, James Brown and B.B.King and other famous musicians that paved the way for Hip-Hop. When we started listening to Hip-Hop we found the lyrics told a story of the struggle people go through in nieghborhoods filled with crime, drugs and guns, which creates violence. Hip-Hop brought forth the new Dr. Kings, Malcolm X's and other leaders that fought for human rights. hip-hop didn't stop or promote crime, but brought attention to the problems in inner cities. We started writing around the year 1994 with a group of friends forming an organization called the HaveKnotz(have-nots). If you know a little about Black History thern you would know that Dr.Martin Luther King fought for the rights of the have-nots, basically poor poeple not only blacks but all people. Our main objective is to uplift the people by giving them a voice and sense of hope. Through the years my brother and I developed our own style and sound, which formed our new group Poetic Justice. We still are apart of the organization HaveKnotz that are also recording an album. Poetic Justice has done open-mic shows at the Atrium, the Mirage, Cafe 290, Queen City, Django's, C.J.'s and Club 20 Grand. For us Hip-Hop is more than just getting money, females, and other materials for our own pleasures. It's a business entertainment that can open the doors for other businesses that could provide jobs and a better life for people who come from the same type of environment we grew up in. Basically we teaching people that no matter where you are from someone can relate tp you and your problems. You can succeed if you try all you need is a chance. Poetic Justice is the continuation of the voice or dreams the ones before us fought for. The world will always need that person or group of people to fight for the rights and tell the story of the people that have to struggle to maintain an ordinary lifestyle also giving them the confidence for a better lifestyle.
