Description
This song was written & completed in the fall of 2011. The chorus lyric "If I was a man who's rivers were nameless" came into my head one cold fall afternoon on a walk back home through the streets of Hyde Park. It wasn't a song that lingered- it came and left quickly. Sometimes I imagine that my muses are coffee beans & days off, so that when I go to read in a cafe I always keep a handy blank notebook in my tote. When I got back from my walk I sat down to write the lyrics to "Rivers"...

If I was a man whose rivers were nameless I'd beat back those holdin' me down But today I am afraid that my voice, it is raised Not in courage, or hope, but in doubt - If I was a man whose chords were yet unwritten The sound, an etherial first. But symphonies and operas and cannon balls and pop songs Are enough to kill my thirst If I was a man whose rivers were nameless Whose paths were yet untrodden Whose chords were plucked anew With curious abandonment we'd head out on the road To be young -- Oh, to hope for somethin' true. If I was a man whose clouds were all blameless My faults, they could rest in my heart But as sunshine fades into the haze - I'm inclined to say "I had no part". If I was a man, among men, among women Among untainted eyes saw a world being born From the flowers of the dust to the wreckage and the rust - And the war of the heart being won. ------------------------------------------ released 13 April 2012 Rivers Written by Marcus Lohrmann Performed by Buckman Page Recorded, Mixed, Mastered by Stark Naked Records Artwork/Design by John Williamson
