Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Jay Denton writes with the soul of his Texas roots and the energy of the big city. Born and raised in Dallas with his family who had a steady flow of singer-songwriters such as Pierce Pettis, James Taylor, Robert Earl Keene, and Pat Green on the stereo, Jay picked up the guitar and started writing songs by the time he was 12 years old. He started off like most of his piers playing punk rock on the electric guitar, but at the age of 15 he decided to take up the acoustic guitar, which changed his life, and he’s never looked back. Deeply touched by his own experiences traveling across 7 continents, Jay’s inspiration stems from the themes of hope, joy, and reality that universally resonate with people, no matter where they’ve come from. His songs range from hard-hitting tunes about freedom, risk, and change, to the wonderfully terrifying night of asking his high school sweetheart to be his girlfriend. With stories inspired by his journeys on the rivers of the Amazon, to the hills of East Africa, his 4 years at USC, or suspended over the cliffs of Australia, Jay will also inspire his listeners. Jay’s love for God and for people is the driving forces behind his desire to capture, and share, hope, love, struggle, and raw life through his music.
