Inspired by a pair of depression era cowboy guitars entrusted to singer/songwriter Brian Bateman by his grandfather – the weathered instruments sang the first notes of a song that became “Wedding Gown” (#1 Country and Folk hit on ReverbNation summer 2010) and provided Brian with an intriguing musical path that needed pursuing. Words swirled in Brian’s head – for weeks on end. The result was a collection of colorful images married to familiar scenarios - the epitome of true love songs. Heartbreaking. Ironic. Comedic. Poignant. Powerful poetry bedded on melody. Sounds for the perpetually broken hearted - taking aim at love’s repeat offenders. Musicians came out of the woodwork as word spread throughout the Boise area that a new band with different ideas about what constituted ‘popular’ music was taking shape: Was it Country? Rock? Folk? Blues? No… This was a brand new Blend. The Brian Bateman Blend began as a three-piece in the summer of 2010. The group features Brian Bateman (vocals and acoustic guitar), Trevor Arana (drums and percussion), and Matt Sisco (bass). The group soon added lead guitarist Gary Glaesemann in preparation for recording their debut album at Audio Lab – with longtime Boise musician and audio guru Steve Fulton as project engineer. In April 2011, the first track on The Brian Bateman Blend’s debut album titled “Break The Chain” climbed to the top of the charts at Ourstage.com (an MTV partner). The song was chosen to be a part of United Vision for Idaho’s compilation CD Progressive Voices – and has found huge success as a finalist in many songwriting competitions, and established itself as a concert favorite with Blend audiences. Shows to date have included numerous performances at the Knitting Factory Concert House both headlining and opening for national touring acts including Blackberry Smoke, Josh Abbott, JJ Grey and Mofro, Alpha Rev, and Mickey and the Motorcars. The Blend will be opening for Warner Bros. Records artist Charlie Worsham on April 17th. The band is also known for their benefit work with the Treasure Valley Chapter of the Autism Society, Kiwanis, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and various Treasure Valley diabetes organizations. In a special solo acoustic performance, Brian opened for rock legend Meat Loaf at Eagle River Pavilion. Additionally, The Brian Bateman Blend has been invited to play the Boise Music Festival 4 years in a row. This hard working band love their regular ‘Blenders’ and live for bringing their unique brand of music to new ears that are searching for something different.
